![]() Looking at possibly putting together something in 308 for a little more punch. In comparison of features, a good AR-10 carbine can get you the same features for roughly $1500 less.but its no M1A. And with a projected cost of about $3500, I think it will stay that way for a while. Personally, that setup based on a SOCOM 16 is my. It does add a bit of weight, but it free floats the barrel and makes for a nice platform to mount toys from. If a pistol grip and collapsable stock are somethings you really are after (and if cost is no object), look into an EBR type stock. The synthetic stock likes to grip the mag pretty good. ![]() The mag cant be "dumped", it has to be physically pulled and removed (and with some force when theyre new). The only thing that really slows you down, are the mags on the S16 or squad scout. I also really like the large rear aperture and tritium front post on the S16. The adjustable rear sight is nice too (with a VERY optimistic 1200 yd adjustment). The action is robust, and very tolerant of dirt. I cant really say anything about wight or maneuverability, because they are about the same, but for some reason the M1A just feels nicer while maneuvering. I have built a few AR's (15's, not 10's), but would gladly take a SOCOM 16 over an AR-10 carbine any day. ![]()
